How to read a Florida product approval number
Separate the FL family number, exact revision, and product line item before opening documents.
Start with three different identifiers
A Florida family uses a base label such as FL followed by digits. An application revision adds a source-native revision token such as R30. A product line item can add a decimal item number. They identify different scopes and should not be stored in one free-text field.
The family is useful for history. The revision identifies a particular application record. The product line item points to a product entry inside that revision. A document may apply to one item, several items, or the full application.
Normalize format without changing identity
Search can safely treat spacing, case, and punctuation variants as the same input. It should not drop the revision or guess a nearby number. When an input is ambiguous, return an explanation and ask for the complete official identifier.
- Copy the exact display number.
- Keep the family and revision fields separate.
- Record the product line item when a document is item-specific.
- Open the official detail page before relying on the match.
Do not infer current status from the number
A larger revision token does not prove that a revision is current, approved, or applicable to a project. Read the official raw status and code-version context. Keep historical revisions independently accessible when they represent real official records.
